“….. Adventures in Song”

Three wonderful Canadian musicians have found each other from far corners of the country, Kim Barlow, Yukon, Raghu Lokanathan, British Columbia and Catherine MacLellan from Prince Edward Island. Their very distinct styles converge in a curious and beautiful world within the singer-songwriter tradition.

Performing their songs in-the-round, the trio will back each other up to create a miniature folk-orchestra. All strong and original songwriters, they are also talented players on various instruments, and seasoned collaborators. Trading off on banjo, guitar, accordion, keyboard, mandolin, cello, percussion and harmonies, Kim, Catherine and Raghu have created a sonic bonfire.

Kim Barlow has been recording and touring since her Yukon-based Caribou Records debut, “Humminah” ten years ago. Recently she has embarked on several collaborative projects, including her all-girl old-time band Annie Lou, and the banjo-ukulele duo with Mathias Kom called Spring Breakup.

Raghu Lokanathan has just released “Blue Girl”, his third album of original songs. He has lived in India, Quebec, Ontario, Nova Scotia, and BC, and likes not belonging anywhere. His songs feature off-kilter narratives, peculiar characters and hummable melodies.

Catherine MacLellan on her recent third album, “Water in the Ground”, Catherine finds possibilities in the rhythms of people coming and going. She chooses to let go of the shadows and transforms heartache into treasures, swords into flowers. With conversational lyrics and heartfelt honesty, Catherine brings joy to sadness and finds songs in adversity.
